"Over and Over" is a song by American rapper Nelly featuring American state music vocalist Tim McGraw. The lyrics were written by Nelly while the music was written and produced by James D. "Sted-Fast" Hargrove 2 and Jayson "KoKo" Bridges. Other musicians contributing to the recording include Bryan Loss (drums) and Matthew Brauss (bass guitar). The lyrics of the vocal focus on regret.[2]

"Over and Over" was released on September 12, 2004, as the second single from Nelly's fourth anthology, Suit, 2 days before Sweat and Accommodate went on sale in stores. The song peaked at number 3 on the The states Billboard Hot 100. Outside the U.s., the single topped the charts of Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, and it peaked within the pinnacle ten of the charts in eight European countries and New Zealand. Information technology was received positively by music critics, who gave most praise to McGraw'south vocal operation.

Critical reception [edit]

Rashaun Hall of Billboard wrote that "Over and Over" possesses "real emotion" and praised Tim McGraw's "moving" lyrics.[two] Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic besides complimented McGraw's hook, proverb that it "works much better than information technology should."[three]

Commercial functioning [edit]

"Over and Over" was a success on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching number iii on December 4, 2004, and spending 24 weeks on the chart.[4] On the Billboard Mainstream Meridian 40, the vocal peaked at number i and set up multiple records, including the biggest jump to number one (seven–1), the quickest climb to the height spot (4 weeks), and the biggest airplay increase for a number-ane song (one,783 detections).[v] [6] It also reached number one on the Rhythmic chart and entered the top 20 on the Adult Tiptop 40 and Hot Rap Songs listings.[7] [eight] [9] It was the 96th-near-successful song of the US in 2004 and the 48th-most-successful song of the following twelvemonth,[10] [xi] earning a platinum certification from the Recording Manufacture Association of America in 2009.[12] The song was a radio hit in Canada, peaking at number one on the Radio & Records CHR/Pop Top 30 chart.[13]

In Europe, "Over and Over" topped the charts of Ireland and the United Kingdom.[xiv] [15] In the latter country, it stayed on the UK Singles Chart for 15 weeks and was ranked at number 25 on the twelvemonth-end chart for 2005.[15] [16] It was certified silver in 2013 for shipping over 200,000 copies in the U.k..[17] Across continental Europe, the single entered the top 10 in Austria,[18] the Czech Commonwealth,[19] Denmark,[20] Germany,[21] Hungary,[22] Romania,[23] and Switzerland,[24] achieving a peak of number 2 on the Eurochart Hot 100.[25] It additionally topped the Australian Singles Chart, staying at the top for five weeks,[26] earning a double-platinum certification,[27] and finishing in fifth place on Australia's twelvemonth-end chart for 2005.[28] In New Zealand, it reached a peak of number two on February 14, 2005, and was the year's 29th-best-selling hit.[29] [thirty]

Music video [edit]

The music video was directed by Erik White and Nelly himself. During the video, Nelly and McGraw sing individually on divide screen. It starts with Nelly and Tim both waking up at 5:30 A.Chiliad., both taking showers, and both leaving their houses & getting into vehicles. Nelly has photos of Ciara on his nightstand and in his automobile, and McGraw has photos of Faith Hill.[31] The settings characteristic like scenes of them encountering fans at gas stations, traveling, and making visits to the airdrome, all the while both preoccupied with their respective significant others. In the end, they both depart on separate just comparable private jets, possibly to see upwards with the women they have been singing about throughout the video.
